Club Meetings
WHEN: 1st Tuesday of the Month except January
TIME: 7.30pm
VENUE: Central Villages Anglican Church Hall,
13 Honour Avenue, Lawson.
TOPICS: See Calendar 2025 page.
Meeting Procedure :
The meetings are informal and light with business, where necessary, kept to a minimum.
The meeting focuses mainly on Guest speaker, Raffle, Trading Table, Best Bloom/Produce Display, Q & A, Supper and Friendship. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own mug/cup and there is a roster for supper food supply. A gold coin donation is requested for supper.
Trading Table
Members donate plants and other gardening related items, eg cuttings, seedlings, bulbs for the table. These are sold at very reasonable prices to members. If they aren't sold during the evening, those members who brought along the items are requested to take them home again, ready for the next meeting. Please bring your own plastic bag/box for your purchases.
Supper
Members are rostered to bring along a plate of small cakes, a slice or home baked biscuits or other tasty delights to share for supper. Notification of the supper roster is in the newsletter each month and one month's notice is given. If you can't be in attendance on the rostered evening, you can swap with someone else. Everyone is also asked to bring along their own mug/cup for tea/coffee. A gold coin donation is requested to cover other costs.
Blooms and Produce Display/Competition
Each month, members are invited to bring along their best bloom/produce/native bloom for display and to participate in the competition. Only one entry is permitted in each of two categories per member. (rules may change)
The categories are:
a) Large Blooms
b) Small Blooms
c) Produce
d) Native Blooms
Members and visitors* may vote for their 'favourite' in each category. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place getters are announced at each meeting and a running tally is kept to determine final winners at the end of the year.
SWAP Night (held after the AGM for Members only)
Members bring along labelled potted plants, wrapped cuttings, seeds, bulbs, useful or attractive pots. All items are carefully distributed by club officials to those who show an interest as each item is held up. This is a great opportunity to relieve members of excess plants or share favourite varieties with others.
There is no limit to the number of items you may bring or acquire on the night.
At this event there is no Bloom/produce display competition.
Christmas Meeting
A fun night to end off the year ! Everyone brings a plate of goodies to share and a wrapped gift (can be anything, not necessarily of a gardening nature) to the value of $15, used for 'Kris Kringle' with a twist ! You need to bring your own cup/mug. There is no plant competition or plant stall at this meeting, however the overall results of the bloom/produce competition are announced and prizes presented.
Newsletter
A monthly newsletter is issued via email /post to report on club management details, upcoming events, reports on club outings and useful gardening information.
*A visitor may only attend meetings/other club activity 3 times, after which time they will need to join the club.
